Rug Hooking Demonstrations
Saturday, June 26 Noon - 5pm

Stop by Belfast Fiberarts on Saturday, June 26 for a rug hooking demonstration and showcase of rugs.

There will be several rug hookers demonstrating, and showcasing their work. Frames will be set up for you to try your hand at hooking! Finished rugs will be available for sale. Patterns, kits, and rug hooking supplies are also available to get you started creating your own  heirloom rugs!

Sarah Leighton is a Maine fiber artist and rug hooker following in her grandmother's footsteps. Initially a primitive rug hooker, Sarah's style is now more contemporary, incorporating a variety of materials into her pieces including wool cloth, yarn, velvet, and sari ribbon to give her pieces more texture.

Marion Brown has been rug hooking for 30 years. She has enjoyed opportunities to study with many teachers. She enjoys teaching students, dyeing wool, and spending time in her studio at the Belfast Center. Her focus has been wide cut primitive rug hooking, and presently has branched out into using brighter colors and more contemporary patterns.

Marion will be demonstrating on Saturday, and have examples of her work. She will have a frame set up so you can try rug hooking  for yourself!

Joan Dwyer from Brewer will also at Belfast Fiberarts Saturday. She has studied rug hooking most of her life. Joan designs rug patterns, dyes wool, teaches basic rug hooking, and can help with color planning.

Sarah, Marion, and Joan will be available for questions, and to share the basics of rug hooking.
